February "WONG NOTES"

It was really wonderful to see our Wayne Cilento and Rob Ashford on the panel of the American Theater Wing's Working in the Theater Seminar on CUNY TV. Also on the panel were Lynn Meadow/director, Michael Frayn playwright (Noises Off) Sean Mathias/director (Bent) and Greg Kotis/ playwrite/lyrcisit (Urinetown.). Our ACL ALUMNI held their own when talking about the relationship between choreographer and dance arranger, learning from each project, taking risks, and investigating new inventive ways to create. Wayne explained also about the Workshop process which he says is so different than when Michael Bennett worked on ACL. He says they did two workshops with no one coming to see what they had done. It was a time to develop the play and the characters without outside eyes. He explains "Now, with the Workshop Process everyone comes to critique it as if it were a full blown product. Producers are invited in order to finance the show. Which means they are buying what they see and many times there is no room for changes that are too far from the workshop. " What's the answer? Go as far away from New York to try and create.

Michael Gorman (Bobby -B'way) is in rehearsals for Taffetas in Colorado Springs. He says he's blocked 38 numbers and wants to know how much more can you do with mic chords. He's also excited about the film course he's taking at the University. He's working hard to get two student films done by May. Anyone for the movies? Michael has his plate full after that busy schedule. He's got another company of Taffetas and Annie in Denver in May. Let's all move to Colorado, at least we know two shows we can do. Good luck Michael and don't forget your friends.

Ken Leigh Rogers (Butch-International) is teaching at Carnegie Melon after leaving OCU in Oklahoma. He's glad to be closer to home. He writes that he met Nikki Harris (floating Cassie -B'way) on Campus. She was there guest teaching. Nikki is now living in Pittsburgh after a long time in New Zealand working on the film Lord of the Rings. She was personal trainer to the actor Liv Tyler. By the way Ken Leigh Rogers, Nikki Harris and I were all involved in the production of My One and Only.

We heard from Cony Borg (Zack-Stockholm) that he was glad to hear about the site and wanted us to know he's choreographing part time for the Royal Swedish Ballet and staging some musicals.

Merete Muenter (Bebe-Atlantic City) is organizing the Atlantic City 10 year reunion. It will be held: Date: May 5 Time: 2:30pm Place: Pietrasanta 638 Ninth Ave (at 47th St.). Cost: Brunch, With tax and tip included $14 or $17 includes dessert. Please e-mail us if you are interested (link below). Hope to see a lot of you there.

Sammy Williams (Original Paul) got good notices from the LA Times for his performance in Doing Judy. That's our Sammy. Here's hoping for a long run.

Miriam Scalia (Bebe-International) has been found! She's living in Valdosta, GA. We'll get in touch with her and find out what she's been up to.

Anthony Inneo (Zack -B'way) will have a reading of his play on Feb 10, at the New Dance Group. We are wishing him well. Let's get this show on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kimberly Dawn Neumann (Val- B'way Tour of America) writes to us from the road. She's still on tour after 2 years with Kiss Me Kate and tells us she has been on several times for Leis. Said she had a blast playing the role.

We heard from Lauri Kraft (Wonderstudy-2001 Tour) She's back in Arlington but will be coming to new York for auditions.

Petra Siniawski (Cassie-London) is Resident Director/Choreographer for Kiss Me Kate in London. She's back at the Victoria Palace Theater after looking after Annie and Always for so long. Petra also is the Resident Director for the Jazz Dance Company at the London Studio Center. She tells us the majority of her graduating class secured agents following their yearly London performance. With Petra (Royal Ballet trained) in charge we know they're good.

José Rivera (costumes ) says his show Swingtime Canteen opened at the Mcoy - Rigby Center. It was directed by Alyson Reed (Cassie -Film) and our Ron Dennis (Original Richie) was in attendance. A toast to a long run.

Hope to hear from you all. Let us know what you are up to.

In loving spirit,

Baayork
