1992 Atlantic City Cast

10th Anniversary Reunion

May 5, 2002 Pietrasanta, NYC

Merete Muenter (Began as a cover and then inherited the role of Bebe) recorded many quotes from the cast members of the 1992 production of "A Chorus Line" in Atlantic City. She would read them aloud to entertain the cast at parties and gatherings they had during the run of the show. The production was at the Claridge Hotel for eight months. There are also many classic quotes from the audience overheard by the cast, as the theater was more like a casino showroom, with the audience very much in earshot! Enjoy!

May 31, 1992, was the night of the Tony Awards ceremony that year. The entire cast raced to watch the TV in one of the dressing rooms during the "Cassie" break, to see which shows were winning. Cheryl Gillette, a cut dancer, was sitting there all ready, nice and cozy, watching the broadcast. When the cast came in and invaded her privacy, she smiled and remarked..."You should all just become cut dancers!"

When the cast returned to the stage after watching the Tony's, Merete's "Bebe" turned to Kris Longwell's "Don" and exclaimed:"Oh Don! I'm 'Crazy For You'! I hope you don't think I'm saying anything 'Falsetto'!This is just like 'Dancing at Lughnasa'. Will you look at all these 'Guys and Dolls'?"

This clearly gives you an idea of what shows were running on Broadway that year!

This quote, said by Michelle Bruckner on June 1, 1992, also gives you an idea of what was the talk at the time:"Whenever I eat between shows, I look like Demi Moore on the cover of 'Vanity Fair'."

June 3, 1992 ~During a cast meeting, Ken Romero, who was "Butch" in the opening, was asked why he kept looking underneath his shirt before he did his jazz "Groups of Four" during the performances. His explanation was:"I was checking to see if my workouts are paying off."

As this cast meeting continued, Paul Cole (dance captain) reminded us about our motivation for "The Ones" by saying:"You go from a genuine smile, to a pained smile, to a very pained smile."Stephen Casey (Gregory) added: "We're in hell, remember?"

June 9, 1992 ~ Merete's "Bebe" to Paul Frank Liberti's "Larry" after the mistake chorus:"What am I doing wrong?" Larry: "The whole thing!"

June 15, 1992 ~ John Fedele's "Bobby" to Suzanne Hayashi's "Connie" after she admits she's 32:"Run Eliza, Run!"

June 15, 1992 ~ Frank Leusner (Cut dancer) to Luis Villabon (Paul) offstage: "Luis, why don't you take matters into your own hands like you always do?"

June 30, 1992 ~ Michelle Bruckner in the dressing room remarked: "Madonna is Velveeta. Sheila is sharp cheddar."

June 30, 1992 ~ Allison Cahilll (Diana) to Tim Tucker (Mike) regarding the "One little fart": "You know, that line is pivotal to the play."

That same drunk guy presented us with an encore later on during the "Ones":

Cast: "ONE!"
Drunk guy: "TWO!"
Cast: "ONE!"
Drunk guy: "TWO!"

One night, during "At The Ballet", someone in the audience was overheard saying: "Oh, I always confuse this show with 'West Side Story'".

And who can forget the timeless quote:"When does the part with the gold costumes come on?"

As well as the ever popular quote after "What I Did For Love":"That's the best song in the show, and we had to wait all the way to the end
to hear it."

Not to mention the two women who left the theater in a huff and went to the box office to get their money back with the complaint:"This isn't a show. This is like an audition or something!"

More to come........
