Dear ACL members,
wanted you all to get a first hand account of how Hurricane Katrina has
effected all of us. Here is an e-mail from Michael Gorman who is in Baton Rouge, directing and choreographing ACL.

I came in to rehearse, we usually go from 4 to 10:30 in the evenings. I was
told that we will no longer rehearse in the evening as there is so much
looting and robbery that we don't want to have any of the cast traveling at
night. There are lines and lines outside of just about every gas station,
fast food place and grocery store. As I understand it, New Orleans will be
literally closed for months. There are bodies laying around on the streets.
The Superdome and convention center have something like 20 thousand people
in each of them. Neither facility has power, water, anything. Again there
are bodies sitting around and the stench is apparantly unbelievable.

The population of Baton Rouge (less than an hour from New Orleans) has
doubled, some say tripled. It is bumper to bumper here, everywhere. I am
ok and I think I will be. I don't really have a phone, I have a cell they
gave me for reheasal changes etc., and will call you later and give you the
#.

Dear Baayork,

This is truly unbelievable. Things are starting to get pretty scary here.

Society is sort of falling apart. I am fine and I think I will be sparedany degree of suffering. We are running out of gas and food and basic things like electricity and water. I'm sending an email to everyone I know to pray. I can't think of anything else...

Subject: My Family & Katrina

For all of those who have expressed your concern for my family and friends in New Orleans I want to give you an update.
Most of my family are accounted for. Some are not, still. They have lost everything, their homes, cars everything - since everything is under 20 feet of water. My heart is broken and my hometown gone.

I can not begin to tell you how hurt and angered I am. The devastation in
New Orleans did not have to happen. This administration knew the danger and refused to allocate the funds to repair and update the levees. Their reason was the money had to go to "their war" in Iraq. This is the second major disaster in our country that this administration could have prevented but chose not to.
If there is love in your heart for the suffering please call and write your senators and representative and demand that this administration be held responsible. And pray for those who had very little and now have nothing.
